I completely fell in love with this book. The characters were so real and had so much depth that I felt like I once knew them at one point in time in which we shared a part of each other’s worlds. 

Their struggle wasn’t anything out of the ordinary, in fact I’m sure many could relate to the periods of times when the family was faced with periods of trials and tribulations and moments of peace and happiness. 

It’s a roller coaster and you’re not sure which part is going to be the climb towards that ‘happily ever after’ or the fall to that something that’s just lurking under the surface ready to upheave whatever happiness they may have found. 

You can’t help but feel the pain and struggles that each character is faced with and the vast love they have for one another. But is that vast love a gift? Or is it like an anchor pulling you down with the fear of never being able to reach the surface. And maybe it’s just about holding on to ‘hope’ for a better tomorrow and a better future. The one thing about someone’s ‘hope’ is that no one can take it away.

This family drama is one you will want to read but make sure you give yourself the time you need to finish it. Because once you start, you won’t want to put it down.

Where do I even begin with this book? With the first  few pages, I was unsure with how I was going to be able to get through this book, but I quickly learned it’s not at all what it seemed it would be and I began to quickly fly through it. While reading, I couldn’t help but think about my own family, especially my grandmother, and all the things we shared and the stories she told. Makes me wish that I would have asked more, learned more, or had kept a notebook with the stories about her life, recipies and traditions. Which for Luna, she did.  Luna, the main character, began keeping a journal when she was young, off and on, and into adulthood.
